Trim Magazine reimagines Edward Scissorhands through a plant’s life cycle—sprouting, flowering, and wilting—to mirror Edward’s journey from creation to admiration to alienation. Garments, color, lighting, typography, and language evolve together from organic and vibrant to dark, jagged, and fragmented—using film dialogue to shape the tone of each spread. The result is an immersive, cinematic magazine experience that traces Edward’s emotional arc.

Process
To develop the concept, I built the spreads around an organic, plant-life metaphor—sprout, bloom, and wilt—so the imagery, poses, outfits, and typographic treatments would reflect Edward’s emotional and psychological transformation throughout the magazine. I began by creating a physical mood board to define the narrative and tone of the magazine, collecting colors, textures, and symbols.
After developing moodboards and exploring materials, I sketched an outline to communicate the story visually. I then designed my model’s outfits by sourcing fabrics and materials from thrift stores, crafting pieces that reflected my organic, reimagined interpretation of Edward’s journey.
Coordinating with models, setting up the sets, and designing the wardrobe presented challenges, including scheduling conflicts and limited time. Despite this, I refined my concept through each medium: set design, styling, photography, lighting, retouching, and typography. The final outcome is a hand-crafted magazine that brings these elements together into a cohesive narrative.
